Vicky takes on the Surrey Half to support other carers
A huge thank you to carer Vicky who is currently training hard for the Surrey Half Marathon.
Surrey’s most popular, and busiest, half marathon takes place from Woking, on Sunday 22nd March. It’s a busy and popular event, with lots of runners trying their best.
Among them will be a small team, running to raise funds to support unpaid carers in Surrey. One of these is carer Vicky O’Brien, who is taking on her very first half marathon to raise funds for Action for Carers Surrey.
Vicky’s story
Vicky cares for her husband, and both she and her son have had help from Action for Carers, so she wants to give something back.
Vicky said: “I wanted to do something completely out of my comfort zone. I’ve never run before, so signing up for the Surrey Half Marathon is a huge challenge for me! I chose this because I wanted to give back to Action for Carers Surrey who have been such a lifeline.
“They’ve supported both me and my son, who is a young carer, and their advice and events have made a real difference. My son has loved the young carers’ activities, which helped him see he’s not alone.
“It actually took me a while to realise I was a carer myself, and during the COVID pandemic, ACS opened my eyes to the help that’s out there.
“Running for ACS is my way of saying thank you and helping other families like mine get the support they need.”
A HUGE thank you from ACS to Vicky and all our other runners.
